Gardening enthusiasts in Brooklyn, rejoice! If you’ve dreamed of nurturing your own patch of earth, Patch in the Park is here to help. Before you grab your spade and seed packets, you'll need to hire a plot. This guide will take you through the application process, ensuring you’re ready to embark on a fruitful gardening season.
Membership Matters
Before you can apply for a garden plot online, you need to become a member of Patch in the Park. Signing up is simple and very affordable at $20 per year. Just visit the membership section of the Patch in the Park website and click "Join Us".
As a member, you will receive updates on various garden activities, workshops, and exciting events throughout the year.
Filling Out Your Plot Application
Once you’ve secured your membership, it’s time to apply for a garden plot. Visit patchinthepark.com.au and choose "Log in" from the menu. Once you have signed into your profile you will see "My Plot" in your profile menu where you will find the Plot Application form to fill out.
If you run into any issues while filling out the form, don’t hesitate to contact the committee at info@patchinthepark.com.
Application Review Process
When you submit your application, it will undergo a review process. The Patch in the Park team carefully evaluates each application to ensure fair allocation of plots to Brooklyn residents.
You will receive a notification about your application outcome. If your plot application gets approved, congratulations! Soon, you’ll receive specific instructions on how to proceed with your gardening adventure.
If you find yourself on the waitlist, don’t worry! It's common for spots to open up during the season. Being waitlisted means you’re next in line for an available plot, so keep your gardening tools ready.
Securing Your Plot
Once your application is approved and you’re offered a plot, the next step is to pay the plot hire fee which is $30 per year. This fee helps maintain the gardens, ensuring they stay healthy and vibrant for all members.
Once your payment is processed, you are ready to start gardening! Keep an eye out for welcome materials that may include guidelines for using the garden, information about nearby resources, and tips for getting started. Engaging in this community allows you to cultivate your green thumb and enjoy the delicious fruits (and vegetables) of your labour.
Getting Started with Gardening
Now that you’ve secured your plot, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and dive into gardening! Here are some practical tips to help you get going:
Plan Your Garden: Take time to sketch a layout for your garden. Consider companion planting, like growing basil with tomatoes, as well as the spacing and sunlight needs of each plant.
Choose the Right Plants: For success in Brooklyn’s climate, select plants that thrive locally. Starting with easy-to-grow varieties, such as radishes (which can sprout in as little as 25 days) or marigolds, can give you a good beginning.
Stay Engaged: Participate in community events organised by Patch in the Park. Building connections with fellow gardeners is not only fun but also an excellent way to share knowledge and advice.
Get Ready for Gardening Success
As you start your journey at Patch in the Park, remember that gardening takes patience and effort. Whether you nurture herbs for your kitchen or colourful flowers to brighten your space, watching your garden thrive is a truly rewarding experience.
So, if you're ready to get your hands dirty and enjoy fresh produce or stunning blooms, take action! Sign up for your membership, complete that plot application, and soon you’ll be part of a vibrant gardening community.
